Studio Luc Tuymans
Studio Luc Tuymans comprises Luc Tuymans' office, archives and studio.
The Studio has been the main producer of Luc Tuymans' recent curatorial projects and public commissions. It was the main artistic producer of the 2009 group exhibition The State of Things curated by Luc Tuymans and exhibited at BOZAR, Brussels and NAMOC, Beijing. In 2010, the Studio collaborated with the Bruges Museum (Musea Brugge) and Brugge + in the realization of the exhibition Luc Tuymans: A vision on Eastern Europe, The Reality of the Lowest Rank, curated by Luc Tuymans and Tommy Simoens.
Since 2009, the Studio has undertaken the development and execution of Luc Tuymans' public artwork Dead Skull, a 1600m2 mosaic comprising some 100 000 pieces of natural stone in eleven shades and four sizes, commissioned by the city of Antwerp for the large square outside the new Museum Aan de Stroom (MAS).
Since its expansion in 2007, when it opened at a new location in the heart of Antwerp, the Studio has actively supported research into Luc Tuymans' artistic practice and has collaborated on all major publications on the artist, including the 2009 exhibition catalogue Luc Tuymans, published by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Wexner Center for the Arts and the 2010 publication Is it Safe? published by Phaidon Press.
The Studio Archive includes an ever-expanding digital database, which keeps records of exhibitions and other projects and preserves digital reproductions of all paintings, drawings, films, editions, source materials, site-specific wall paintings and press clippings. In close collaboration with David Zwirner, the Studio maintains an ongoing Photography Program, which collects and produces hi-res reproductions of Luc Tuymans' paintings.
